Mercury systematics of black shale and sill intrusions in the city centre of Oslo

This thesis will investigate the behaviour of mercury in black shales in Oslo. Black shale is cropping out in the city centre and is a challenge during construction work. In addition, the shale is rich in mercury and is affected by the heat from numerous sill intrusions.

This thesis will study a selection of recent boreholes drilled through the shale and sills. The aim is to understand how the sills and sulphide recrystallisation have affected mercury concentrations. The work will be part of a larger group targeting the implications of Oslo rift magmatism and volcanism.
