One of the largest European Geosciences conferences, EAGE was hosted by Norway after a long hiatus of 20 years. Geoscientists from Dept. of Geosciences, University of Oslo were strongly represented at the conference.

Årets kandidatmarkeringer ved Institutt for geofag er vel gjennomført, og det ble en flott feiring av våre BSc og MSc-studenter som blir ferdige i 2024. Flere foto fra dagen!

The recently Oslo Hydrogen Seminar shed light on hydrogen as a clean energy source with focus on geological hydrogen storage. The seminar was organised by the Dept. of Geosciences' Section for Environmental Geosciences in collaboration with the HySTORM-project and the Uni. of Edinburgh.

Temaet var geofare, og oppdraget til fyrsteårstudentane på 'Geologi og geografi'-studiet var å laga informative posterar om potensielle geofarar. Posterane vart seinare presentert på ein tenkt "Global Geofarekonferanse 2024", og resultatet var både flott design og godt fagleg innhald. 

Studieprogrammene innen informatikk har flest søkere, mens geofag har hatt størst økning. 

Masterstudenter i geofag ved UiO og UiB kan nå søke stipend fra den nyopprettede 'Professor Annik Myhres Stiftelse'. Stipend skal benyttes til fremme av forskning eller studier knyttet til geologi.

En gruppe studenter og forelesere fra Institutt for geofag dro høsten 2023 til Jotunheimen for å studere isbreer, landskap og geomorfologi. En fotograf ble med, og det resulterte i utstillingen «Arven etter Esmark». 

– Når du står foran en isbre og skal peke ut spesifikke landformer, blir faget mer levende.

The third Arctic Ocean Dynamics workshop gathered oceanographers from around the world on November 9-10 at Oslo Science Park. The event was devoted to research on understanding the changes in the Artic Ocean, and was hosted by the Department of Geosciences, University of Oslo.

The 2023 Outstanding Student and PhD candidate Presentation (OSPP) Award from the European Geosciences Union is awarded to Herman Fæhn Fuglestvedt for the poster/PICO entitled: Arctic Polar Vortex Controls Aerosol Evolution After High-Latitude Volcanic Eruptions.

Den nasjonale Geofaredagen vart arrangert av Høgskulen på Vestlandet (HVL) 19.-20. oktober i Sogndal. Rekordmange studentar frå UiO deltok på denne fagkonferansen dedikert til geofare.

Five promising researchers at the University of Oslo have been awarded ERC Starting Grants from the European Research Council. The projects showcase the breadth of UiO's disciplines, ranging from sustainability and marginalization to plasma accelerators and sleep.

A research team at and affiliated to the Dept. of Geosciences has won an award from the European Space Agency (ESA) and the European Geosciences Union for their project collaboration on earth observation and measurement of glaciers.
