Hydrogeologi

Hydrogeology is the study of groundwater and its relation with porous and fractured rocks, surface water bodies, such as lakes, streams, and wetlands, and their dependent ecosystems.

Hydrogeological studies are applied in the context of:

  • Exploration of freshwater resources for drinking water purposes, agriculture and industry
  • Shallow geothermal energy

  • Construction of underground infrastructures such as tunnels
  • Delineation of contaminated sites and remediation strategies
  • Subsurface disposal of hazardous waste and carbon dioxide
  • Assessment of natural hazards such as rock-slides and quick-clay slides
