HISP is a global action research network providing day-to-day direct support to DHIS2 users, including ministries of health and local implementers. DHIS2 is an open source, web-based software platform most commonly used as a health management information system (HMIS).

History

In 1994 HISP was initiated in the post-apartheid South-Africa as a part of the decentralization of the health system to give more local control at the district level. It has grown to become a global movement, with HISP groups in 17 countries in Asia, Africa and the Americas, and DHIS2 deployments in more than 100 countries.
