Abstract: Vibrational circular dichroism (VCD) is a relatively new kind of chiral spectroscopy, which emerged only few decades ago and significantly broadened the potential of the parental infrared (IR) spectroscopy. I will demonstrate its applicability to structural and conformational studies of a variety of systems ranging from small organic molecules to supramolecular assemblies. Complementing the experimental spectra by theoretical calculations can expand the utilization of the method even more, for example for fast and relatively cheap absolute configuration determination, which has been now accepted as the method of choice by many pharmaceutical companies.
