Title: On the origin of bonding in metals: Chromium and sodium as case studies
Abstract: In this talk we shall adopt the PATMOS model (Perturbed AToms in MOlecules and Solids) to analyse bonding in metals. The concept of perturbed atoms is ideally suited for such an analysis. The bonding energy per atom can be calculated in terms of distortion energies for the atoms involved and Coulomb, exchange and correlation energies between pair of atoms.
