Keyless locks pilot project in Kristine Bonnevies hus

In 2023, UiO will test a keyless locking system at the Department of Biosciences in Kristine Bonnevies hus. 13 doors will be fitted with locks that open with a mobile app. This affects master students and a selection of employees and guests.

Background

We will be testing a keyless and battery-free locking system called iLOQ S50. This system uses Near Field Communcation (NFC) to unlock doors, the same technology used in mobile payment services such as Apple Pay. Unlike Bluetooth and WiFi, NFC only works over short distances, and you must hold your mobile phone close to a reader for it to work.

Will it work on my phone?

In order to use the keyless locks, you will need a smart phone compatible with NFC:

    • iPhones with iOS 13 or newer versions installed (iPhone 7 or newer models)
    • Android models with 6.0 Marshmallow

If you have a non-compatible phone, please contact the Security Operation Center to receive a key fob.

    How do I get access

Students and employees who are registered as users of the rooms that get keyless locks, will receive a SMS with an activation code. This presupposes that we have registered your correct cell phone number.

    Test your app

A test lock has been placed in the reception (Ekspedisjonen) in Kristine Bonnevies hus. After activating you app, you can test it on the test lock. (Opening hours of the Reception.)
