In collaboration with the union Naturviterne, the Department of Biosciences organized the Career Day for Natural Sciences, which unlike similar events at the University of Oslo, aimed at the fields of bioscience, physics, geology and chemistry. Companies from various sectors and disciplines came to present themselves, and talk to the students about their career opportunities. Fellows from the Department of Biosciences were also present to answer questions about research education at the University of Oslo. The program included corporate presentations, mingling with companies, job search courses and free CV photography.
Fruitful meeting between students and businesses
The need for a separate career day with companies that target this group has been great, and is reflected in results from the student survey The Study Barometer, where the Department of Biosciences has good results outside of work relevance. There are also regular feedback from students about such a need, and that study counselors experience a steady stream of questions from the students about work after completing their studies. When it turned out that the Naturviterne were of the same opinion, there was no doubt that one should unite forces to achieve this common goal.
Great success for the Career Day
The day itself was a great success with up to 80 engaged participants in Kristine Bonnevie's house at Blindern. The feedback from the students has been very positive, with the hope that a similar event can be conducted next year. The companies that participated have also provided good feedback, and many expressed a wish to continue the collaboration and would like to participate in the future as well.
