Colours of Svalbard

Published by: Danny Hitchcock

This week I am processing vegetation samples collected during the Svalbard summer of 2016. These five tubes contain extracts of grass collected from different sites, including bird cliffs and a goose island.

While it might look like my samples are radioactive, the green colour is just the pigment chlorophyll, which helps Arctic plants absorb as much sunlight as possible during the summer months.
