Group annual meeting 2023

Early this year, our annual Borgå group meeting took place at the Drøbak Tollboden Research station. Here, we congregated to recap 2022’s many accomplishments and plan for the upcoming year.

It began with the presentations of the Borgå Lab’s main projects: MULTICOP, MULTIWHALE, Nansen Legacy,  Overwintering, MULTICLIM, and the DOM project. We had the honor of having Jonathon Stillman from University of California, Berkeley, talk about the effects of multiple stressors on marine organisms, and Dania Albini, a visiting Postdoc from the University of Oxford, discuss her expertise in freshwater organisms. A “2022 Year In Review '' highlighted the many accomplishments of this group, including published papers, convention attendances, funding successes, and more personal news including exciting new family additions.

Catching up on the work of the research group

On the second day in Drøbak, the group’s masters’ students presented their interesting project plans and updates. Other team members had the opportunity to give expert inputs and suggestions to support and progress their projects - it was great to learn about the new and developing research happening in the lab! We finished off the annual meeting with a trip to the Drøbak Akvarium where we learned about many Norwegian-native species like the lumpfish and mini sharks, and the touch pools were (as always, does not matter how old you are) a big hit!

Thanks to the meeting, the team left Drøbak inspired to keep doing exciting research - we cannot wait to see what 2023 has in store!
