What fieldwork in Tanzania looks like

My last field trip to Tanzania involved water sampling, fish dissection, dissection of crabs and various mussels, wading in polluted mangrove sediment, and a fair amount of sweat

Can we find pollutants associated with e-waste in the marine environment? To address this question we collect samples of water, zooplankton and various types of fish.

There are several mangrove forests in coastal Tanzania. Many are recieving input from polluted rivers running through the city of Dar es Salaam. Pollutants may end up in the sediment, and accumulate in the animals that live here.

Old landfills are being used for agricultural purposes. Samples of vegetables, eggs, and fish (!) will be analysed for contaminants.
