Abstract
In my talk I will first give an overview of the physiological problems most animals encounter when there is not enough oxygen, and then describe the mechanisms utilized by the crucian carp (Carassius carassius) to overcome these problems. I will then present some of our recent research regarding brain cell death, oxidative damage, and reactive oxygen species, and focus on a few particularly interesting examples of transcriptional changes observed in an RNAseq experiment.
