My research group concentrates on developing rapid, molecular protocols for measuring biodiversity, which we call "Biodiversity Soup". Without mechanisms to monitor the state of nature in ways that are cheap, repeatable, and verifiable, there is no way to set up incentives to preserve biodiversity. I discuss how we can combine large-scale eDNA surveys with statistical modelling to improve biodiversity management, and how I am thinking about how to use this new capability to scale up conservation

Douglas Yu is a Professor at the University of East Anglia and Kunming Institute of Zoology https://research-portal.uea.ac.uk/en/persons/douglas-yu
