PFAS in ski waxes gives the skis better gliding properties. There is now a ban on PFAS-containing wax in skiing competitions due to the toxic effect it has on environment and health. Our plan is to exploit bacteria and specific genes that can recognize PFAS compounds with a reporter gene the bacteria will give off a measurable signal that can be integrated into a testing device.
