Academic interests
As a PhD candidate in environmental toxicology, I am interested in how our environment is affected by man-made contaminants. My background is in Arctic biology and I wrote my Masters thesis on the levels and genotoxic effects of contaminants in seabirds from Svalbard.
I am currently employed in the AnthroTox project (read more about this interdisciplinary project here), where I will investigate if waste from electronic equipment (e-waste) is a source of contaminants in the coastal environment of Tanzania. I will study tropical marine food webs, mangrove ecosystems and urban landfills and measure toxic chemicals, such as flame retardants and PCBs, and their behaviour in different organisms and systems.
