Sverre Holm Moves to the Department of Physics

In January 2020, Sverre Holm ended his career as a professor of acoustic imaging and signal processing in the Group for Digital Signal Processing and Image Analysis (DSB), to move his office and primary association to the Department of Physics.

Sverre Holm (Early 2020)

Sverre started at our department in 1995 as the first professor in signal processing.  He had a background in ultrasound imaging and made acoustical signal processing the main focus of his research.  Now, 25 years later, almost 40 MSc students and 20 PhD students have benefitted from his passion and great knowledge.  During his career at IFI, Sverre has been involved as an advisor for many startups, like Sonitor doing indoor positioning and Eliptic Labs (which integrated ultrasound technology in millions of Xiaomi mobiles).  In recent years, he has taken more interest in the physics and mathematics behind wave propagation in complex media like biological tissue in the context of medical ultrasound and elastography.

Even though Sverre has physically moved across campus, in order to be closer to those doing physics, he will frequently visit IFI and continue to part in several ongoing projects and contribute in teaching in signal processing.  The DSB group wishes him all the best in the new position!
