The Green Council

The Green Council is an advisory body to the department management. Members are appointed by the department management, based on nominations from the research groups.

Mandate

The Green Council will adapt, refine, and locally implement the Climate and Environmental Strategy of UiO. In particular, the department shall (a) strengthen research addressing digital environmental sustainability in the above broad sense, (b) address environmental responsibility and potential associated with digital technologies in its teaching and training, and (c) organize its daily operations so as to increase awareness and understanding of climate and environment effects and to minimize unnecessary resource use.

To this end, the Green Council will have considerable freedom in interpreting and refining its mandate. The council is invited to consider, among other things, to establish mechanisms to assess and monitor the climate footprint of activities at the department, to propose policies and routines for reduced resource consumption and more effective operation, to stimulate an internal seminar series (or other types of community events) on green informatics, to contribute to the design of new or refined courses or learning goals related to environmental sustainability, to suggest specific research directions or initiatives that address environmental sustainability, or to pursue the implementation of innovative or experimental sustainability technologies at the department.

The council should adequately represent the scientific breadth of the department, as well as diversity along relevant dimensions, including gender, nationality, and career stage.
