Strategic Plan 2023-2026

This strategic plan reflects the Department of Informatic’s strategic assessments and emphasises the goals of the department and in which direction the department wishes to develop in the period 2023–26. The plan follows up key points in the University of Oslo’s strategic plan.

The department’s vision

The Department of Informatics (IFI) at the University of Oslo (UiO) is a leading researchintensive informatics department in the Nordic region. IFI represents the field of informatics with considerable professional breadth and offers education and knowledge of high international quality.

The department actively participates in funding schemes for both basic, long-term and thematic, applied research. We work long-term and systematically with research quality and talent development. The department offers research-based teaching at bachelor’s and master’s level, through a number of integrated study courses, shorter study programmes, as well as experience-based offers for lifelong learning. IFI is both nationally and internationally attractive for doctoral candidates, postdoctoral fellows and other researchers. Recruitment of students and staff aims to ensure that the department reflects the diversity of the society at large to the greatest extent possible.

The learning and working environment at the department is characterised by openness and respect; there is zero-tolerance for discrimination. The department practices trust-based management; arrangements are made for transparency and efficient operation through, among other things, routine descriptions, delegated responsibilities and use of digital tools, with a focus on open standards.

Informatics is a key sustainability discipline; Ifi develops and offers knowledge, methods and technologies that contribute to digital and sustainable social change.

The department is a sought-after and reliable partner for other research and higher education organisations, as well as for Norwegian and international business.
