  Abstract. Platformization is transforming the way work is organized in a variety of businesses. The CSCW literature contains substantial amount of research on platforms, but this research to date has mainly been focusing on two-sided global platforms such as social media, on-demand labor, and crowdsourcing platforms. In many European countries, platformization of traditional organizations, both private and public, is well underway and accelerated by the pandemic. Platformization as a process can affect how we design systems –i.e. the platform itself and its peripheral applications and customizations –and how we use platforms for collaboration. Through this workshop we want to engage academics and practitioners in a discussion of the platformization of collaborative work in organizations. Topics include but are not limited to platform design and development, platformization processes, and platforms and work practice evolution. The socio-technical nature of platforms indicates that working across disciplines has become crucial for platform research. We therefore invite participants from all relevant disciplines.

  Uncertainty and the pursuit of new ventures are intricately linked. Digital technologies open up new ways for uncertainty handling in the pursuit of novelty. In this paper, we develop a process model that traces the dynamics among uncertainty, digitally enabled tactics, and organizational novelty. The model points to the potential of technologies that are evocative, disposable, and responsive for venturing in complex, uncertainty-ridden contexts. Our research builds on extant conceptualizations of complexity in innovation journeys, in conjunction with perspectives on effectual entrepreneurial tactics. Empirically, we investigate uncertainty handling through a longitudinal case study on an in-house venture for the introduction of novel electronic services for patients in a major university hospital. Our research provides insight into the processes through which intrapreneurs handle uncertainty by leveraging the potential of digital technologies. The paper offers theoretical implications for the digital intrapreneurship literature.

  In this paper, we study a public-private digital infrastructure to understand the dynamics of its emergence. We explore the interrelation of architectural and governance aspects of the infrastructure, through a longitudinal, embedded case study of the Norwegian Welfare Technology project. We introduce the concept of infrastructural tuning to conceptualize a dynamic of resistance and accommodation over time between the infrastructure’s architecture and implementation and multiple actors’ interests, policy goals and emerging opportunities and challenges. Our study makes three contributions: first, based on the analysis of our case study we provide an understanding of how the architecture of a digital infrastructure can accommodate divergent perspectives and strategies in public-private partnerships; second, we provide a process perspective on digital transformation of the public sector by analyzing the tuning process of the architecture-governance interplay; third, we develop the concept of infrastructural tuning.

  The primary health services are subjected to intensified digitalisation with the aim of transforming care provision. Various smart and assistive technologies are introduced to handle the growing elderly population and enhance the opportunities for independent living among patients in need of continuous care. Research has shown how such digitalisation processes evolve in the intersection of different and often competing discourses, oriented towards phenomena such as service efficiency, cost containment, technological innovation, client-centred care and digital competence development. Often, increased technology use is presented as solutions to pressing problems. However, the way in which discourses are negotiated in work contexts and their mechanisms of inclusion/exclusion have received less attention. This article examines how care workers in the primary health sector are discursively positioned when care technologies are introduced in the services. We employ a perspective on discourses and subject positions in analysing strategic documents and interviews with care workers in a larger Norwegian city. We show how managerial discourses that focus narrowly on the implementation and mastery of individual technologies provide limited spaces for workers to exert influence on their work situations, while discourses that emphasise professional knowledge or broader technological and organisational relations provide a variety of resources for workers’ agency. The way care workers adopt and negotiate subject positions varies with their tasks and responsibilities in the organisation. We discuss the need to move beyond ‘solutionism’ in efforts to digitalise care work in order to provide inclusive spaces supporting the contributions of various worker groups.
