Professor Bendik Bygstad Honoured with the MISQ Impact Award 2023.

The MISQ Impact Award is one of the most prestigious awards within the field of information systems.

Professor Bendik Bygstad, along with his co-author Professor Ola Henfridsson, investigated the evolution of digital infrastructure and identified three key mechanisms that drive its development: adoption, innovation, and scaling. Their findings have been instrumental in helping managers and organizations understand how to effectively manage and adapt to the ever-changing landscape of digital infrastructures since its publishing ten years ago.

The award-winning article, "The Generative Mechanisms of Digital Infrastructure Evolution," has been awarded for its originality and its profound impact on the field of Information Systems (IS). Bygstad's work has significantly advanced our understanding of how digital infrastructures operate and how they can be harnessed to drive innovation and growth. This recognition serves as evidence to the groundbreaking work of Professor Bendik Bygstad and his colleagues. His research has had a lasting impact on the field of IS and continues to shape our understanding of how to effectively manage and utilize digital infrastructures in today's complex and ever-evolving technological landscape.

About Bendik Bygstad

Bendik Bygstad is a professor specializing in Digital Innovation within the Department of Informatics. His research focuses on the intricate relationship between Information Technology (IT) and organizations, exploring key areas such as:

- Digitalization of organizations
- Digital infrastructures in the healthcare sector
- IT Management

With a theoretical foundation in Information Systems, Bendik employs critical realism as a lens for both theory and methodology in his work. His academic involvement extends to being an Adjunct Professor at the Norwegian School of Economics (NHH).

Bendik teaches Digital Leadership and contributes to the Executive Master's in IT and Management program, covering subjects like IT Governance and IT Architecture.

He holds a PhD in Computer Science from Aalborg University and a Mag.art in Sociology from the University of Oslo. His professional journey spans over 15 years, including significant practical experience that encompasses a CIO position.
