DSB-Seminar: Medical Simulations: Graphics & Haptics

Training of medical practitioners is costly and time consuming as it requires a lot of equipment and monitoring for assessment. A simple scenario is needle insertion training, when nurses are trained any needle they use cannot be reused and the dummy after sometime will be unusable.  Medical simulations in virtual reality help ease this issue by giving the practitioners the ability to do/try the same exercise over and over again as many times as possible. The presentation will talk about how 3D Graphics and Haptics technologies have been used to do medical simulations with examples of 3 projects that the author has contributed to the development of.
