27th PhD Days (13th October 2014)

Welcome to the 27th PhD Days workshop which will this year be conducted as a PhD Consortium on the first day of the 3rd Innovation in Information Infrastructures (III) Workshop.

Registration Deadline for the PhD consortium closed September 19th!

Group assignments now available here

Venue: The Introduction and Plenary will be held in the Fifth Floor of the Informatics Building (IFI2).  Coordinators will guide participants to relevant locations for group sessions. The GI group is found in the 6th Floor, where coffee can be made and members be guided to the 5th Floor venues.

Student Assignment  Deadline October 1st!

Participating students are required to complete two assignments prior to workshop attendance:

1. A PhD report following the Workshop Template [doc]

The aim of the PhD report is to provide sufficient insights for the other group members to give feedback and to discuss issues related to your overall research project as well as its progress. The report should provide details of your research project including: the background and motivation for the research, research questions, research approach, and current and future research activities

2. A paper (research proposal for new PhD students)

Each student is also encouraged to provide a paper they are currently working on. This paper could be a paper already submitted to a conference/journal or a paper that is still in progress. This paper should be able to provide readers with an understanding of the background of your research project

The completed report and paper should be attached to the registration before the student assignment deadline. The articles will be assigned to members of your working group before the workshop.

You are required to review in advance the contribution of all the other students in your working group in order to provide feedback. Each student will also be assigned as the main discussant of one of the other students' work. Thus, this student will be responsible for providing extensive comments for the assigned report and paper. Working group chairs (faculty) will be responsible for keeping track of time and managing the discussions. Details of this will be distributed along with the reports and papers within the respective working groups prior to the workshop.

In previous PhD days, approximately one hour has been reserved for each student. Due to slight alterations in the format this year, some changes will be made to the allocated time if necessitated by the number of participants. Students should be prepared to provide a short presentation (5-10 minutes) of their work summarizing the key points of their research. The remainder of the time should be spent on discussion of the report and paper and the students’ PhD research including the discussion items identified by the student in their contributions.
