Inclusive information collaboration: A multilevel study of blind and sighted professionals working on information

This study scrutinises the individual actions of two blind professionals, the dyadic cooperation with their sighted colleagues and the interactions at the team level in a large government organisation. This multilevel analysis shows how blind and sighted professionals use digital tools collaboratively to work on information-oriented tasks to overcome the challenge of operating in a predominantly visual world. The examination focuses on the use of email messages, office documents and PowerPoint slides. The evidence shows that the of representational materialities of information of these objects shape how blind and sighted professionals work on information-oriented tasks in a coordinated, empathetic fashion that describes an inclusive information collaboration phenomenon. This phenomenon is the result of an upwards compilation process characterised by discontinuity, complementarity and volatility.
