We often see news about the latest development of quantum computers: how they will break all security or that Google now have achieved quantum supremacy. This is always fun to hear about, but it is hard to understand the implications of this.

This seminar will give a simple introduction to quantum computation for computer scientists. We need to learn a bit of the fundamentals to understand where the power of quantum computers comes from. But the main focus will be on understanding the difference to our conventional computational models, the possible applications, and what the current state-of-the-art and development projects for the future.

I will also highlight my personal favorite research in the area.

So will quantum computers actually be a future solution to all of our problems or is it just the latest hype, promoted by the big IT companies?
