From VLAN separation to microsegmentation and NSX in a large-scale environment

VLANs (Virtual Local Area Networks) can provide logical separation between different network segments that share the same physical network infrastructure. However, scaling becomes an issue once one reached 2000+ VLANS for separation of users and data. In this master thesis you will take part in the process of going from VLANs to microsegmentation using among other technologies NSX to solve the scaling issues faced by the TSD system hosted by UiO. The basic ideas and plans are already laid out, the student will follow the process, take part in the process and work with evaluating the technology and the choices made.  This project focuses on analysing and evaluating the plans and the implementation of the microsegmentation and NSX setup to be implemented by USIT in the TSD system. This project is in collaboration with USIT, and you will have one or more supervisors at USIT.
