Emails are silently lost more often than one might believe (studies report loss rates of around 1%). The reliability of email can be somewhat improved by using Delivery Status Notifications (DSNs) as a form of positive ACK. This has been investigated, and addressed with a Thunderbird plugin in a previous master thesis.
The goal of this thesis is to implement a standalone tool which adds DSN requests to outgoing emails and interprets / filters incoming DSN responses, such that the same functionality is provided without having to change the email client.
