Evaluation of existing blockchain technologies

The popularity of blockchain brought about a multitude of blockchain systems: IOTA, Ethereum, Hyperledger Fabric, and others. These systems operate under different assumptions and have diverging design. The performance and even general behavior of these emerging systems has only been partially investigated [1,2,3].

There are many metrics representing functional and non-functional properties of blockchain systems that it would be interesting to investigate. Some of the metrics are general and can be applied to all systems (transactional throughput and latency) while other metrics are system-specific. The objective of this project is to contribute towards better understanding of these properties.
