SPARK Norway Educational Forum are meetings organized by UiO:Life Science and SPARK Norway partners.

Dr. Esti Yeger-Lotem, Associate Professor, Department of Clinical Biochemistry & Pharmacology, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Israel, will present her lecture "Elucidating disease mechanisms via their tissue-selectivity."

MSc. Vittoria Mallia at the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, is defending the thesis «Potential endocrine disrupting activity of cyanobacteria – possible roles for microcystins» for the degree of Philosophiae Doctor.

Msc. Perizat Berdiyeva at the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, is defending the thesis  «Characterization of Heat Storage Materials with Neutron Scattering and Imaging Techniques » for the degree of Philosophiae Doctor.

Msc. Magnus Moe Nygård at the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, is defending the thesis «Local and average structure in high-entropy alloys and associated metal deuterides» for the degree of Philosophiae Doctor.

Dr. Juho Rousu, Professor in Computer Science, Aalto University, Finland, will present the lecture "Machine Learning of Drug Combination Responses."

October 10 is the World Mental Health Day! In relation to that, UiODoc will host two online events on Zoom in the same week focuing on mental health for PhDs and Postdocs.

First, on October 14, we'll have a talk by the senior adviser Kristine Mollø-Christensen at UiO'S Occupational Health Service. Next up, on October 16, is an interactive event with psychologist Maria Abrahamsen Østhassel, known from her social media accounts @PsyktDeg. 

Msc. Marianne Skov-Skov Bergh at the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, is defending the thesis «Fentanyl Analogs: Development of Bioanalytical Methods for Forensic Case Work and Studies of Metabolism and Pharmacodynamic Effects » for the degree of Philosophiae Doctor.

Imposter syndrome probably affects most of us, and can seriously affect our mental health, confidence, and happiness. This talk by Hugo de Boer aims to analyse and relativise imposter syndrome, as well as provide insights to mitigate its effects.

Msc. Jon Austad at the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, is defending the thesis «Theoretical Investigations of Molecular Electronic Structure in a Magnetic Field » for the degree of Philosophiae Doctor.

Dr. Shaun Mahony, Assistant Professor, Biochemistry & Molecular Biology Department, Penn State University, USA, will present the lecture "Using neural networks to characterize the predeterminants of induced transcription factor binding sites."

Msc. Nico König at the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, is defending the thesis « Structure and Exchange Kinetics of Nanocrystalline Micelles, Telechelic Hydrogels and Self-Assembling Antimicrobial Peptides » for the degree of Philosophiae Doctor.

On September 2 – 4 2020, the Faraday Discussion "New Horizons in Density Functional Theory" was held as an online event, chaired by Hylleraas Adjunct Professor Andy Teale and sponsored by the Hylleraas Centre. The Faraday Discussion, which was originally planned as a physical meeting at the University of Cambridge, attracted nearly 200 participants.

The annual Hylleraas Spring Meeting is organized by the Oslo node at the Sundvolden Hotel. Due to the corona virus pandemic, the dates have been changed to August 10 to 12.
