Academic interests

The research activity is focused on the study of active sites involved in surface adsorption phenomena and catalytic processes on different type of heterogeneous catalysts (oxides, zeolites). The studies are based on advanced characterization techniques related to surface and solid state sciences (UV-Vis-NIR diffuse reflectance, Fourier-Transformed IR and synchrotron based techniques such as XAS), used in situ and in operando conditions. Part of the research activity has been devoted to the development and optimization of different in situ/operando experimental set-ups at both the University of Turin and Oslo. The optimized setups allow following in situ the photodegradation of organic pollutants (by coupling FTIR in transmission mode with a UV-Vis source), the redox catalysis related to NOx abatement processes (by coupling UV-Vis-NIR diffuse reflectance with a gas-flow set up) and the conversion of CH4 to CH3OH.
