The UiO:Life Science ImmunoLingo Convergence Environment Symposium.

Richard van Wezel, Professor of visual neuroscience and Vice dean of research, the Faculty of Science, Radboud Universitety will present his work on the use of smart glasses to reduce freezing of gait in Parkinson's patients.

The scope of the workshop: This international workshop brings together scientist from a wide range of fields with a special interest in bio-mechanics phenomena from cellular scale to the size of organs. Through a series of short talks the participants will present their work, where the workshop strives to stimulate scientific exchange and to initiate new collaborations.

Patent strategy is an important part of the innovation process. On this seminar you will hear from experts from Inven2 and learn how you can build a solid patent strategy.

Dr. Mark Robinson, Associate Professor of Statistical Genomics, Institute of Molecular Life Sciences, University of Zurich, Switzerland, will present his lecture "Statistical methods for flexible differential analysis of multi-sample multi-condition single-cell RNA-seq datasets."

Solid research is the basis for all new innovations. However, too often data generated in academia turns out to be irreproducible by others and therefor fail in translation to new products and treatments. What does it take to achieve reproducible high quality data?

"PhD completion seminar", is a full day seminar for PhD candidates at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences supporting them in the final period of writing the popular scientific summary, preparing for and executing the trial lecture and defence.  

Dr. Günter Klambauer, Institute for Bioinformatics, Johannes Kepler University Linz, Austria, will present the lecture "Deep Learning methods in early-stage drug discovery."

Dr. Pekka Marttinen, Assistant Professor, Helsinki Institute for Information Technology HIIT, Aalto University, Finland, will present the lecture "A Bayesian model of acquisition and clearance of bacterial colonization incorporating within-host variation."

Time and again, a product is being developed, approved, and launched, only to flop in the marketplace. So how can you get your ducks in a row to prepare for a successful product, and how early should you start this process? The answer: begin with the end in mind by creating and using a Target Product Profile (TPP).

Dr. Anne-Laure Boulesteix, associate professor at the Department of Medical Informatics, Biometry and Epidemiology of the Faculty of Medicine, Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, Germany, will present her lecture "A plea for benchmarking and against fishing expeditions with focus on the statistical analysis of omics data."

National law and European directives, regulations and guidelines regulate development of medicinal product and medical devices. A product's successful journey from research to market and eventually patients requires a well-designed regulatory strategy and several consultations with regulatory authorities.

Dr. Elana Fertig, Associate Professor of Oncology and Applied Mathematics and Statistics Assistant Director of the Sydney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center, Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, USA, will present the lecture "Uncovering hidden sources of transcriptional dysregulation arising from inter- and intra-tumor heterogeneity."

Dr. Francesca Buffa, Associate Professor, Computational Biology and Integrative Genomics, Department of Oncology, CRUK/MRC Institute, University of Oxford, will present the lecture "In-silico modelling of the tumour microenvironment."

What are the most important skills you need to have as an entrepreneur and why is your business model just as important as your product?

We invite the citizens of Oslo to a light event with glimpses of life sciences at UiO and amazing ice sculptures. 

What were the most important biotechnology debates in 2018? What will be important this year?

UiO:Life Science, the Norwegian Biotechnology Advisory Board and Creaza will launch a new digital universe. This is a closed event for secondary schools.
