Getting to the university campus from the city centre is pretty straightforward by Metro (see http://www.uio.no/english/about/maps/getting-to-uio/#toc1 for more details).
To get from Hotel Gyldenløve to the math department you can either take the tram (walk to Bislett and take the 17 or 18 tram to Universitetet Blindern) or the T-bane (walk to Majorstuen and take the 4 or 5 metro line to Blindern). (From the hotel, the Niels Henrik Abel building is about a 30 min walk).
