Practical guide for participants

Getting in

You can find travel restrictions to Norway here. Oslo Gardermoen Airport (IATA: OSL) is the main airport for Oslo. The recommended connection to the city from the airport is by train, either the regular trains serviced by the company Vy or the express train (a bit faster, slightly more expensive). There are separate vending machines selling tickets for the two companies in the arrival terminal area of the airport.

Getting around

Reisekort (Travelcard) is the most convenient way to get around in the city. This is valid on T-bane (metro), bus, tram, commuter train, and non-sightseeing boat lines operated by Ruter, and you can either charge it for pay-as-you-go or for period tickets (24-hour ticket is 117NOK and 7-day ticket is 323NOK). Other than traveling from and to the airport, Zone 1 should be enough.

Standard mobile mapping services already cover the public transportation in Oslo quite well, but Ruter also has their own mobile app Ruter.

Event location

The workshop will take place at the Blindern campus of the University of Oslo. See this map for the buildings in which the auditoria are located. The campus is close to Blindern station (metro) and Universitetet Blindern stop (tram). To get from Hotel Thon Europa or Scandic Karl Johan it is possible to take trams no 17 or 18. Alternatively, it is a reasonably nice walk of approx 40 minutes, mostly following the tram route on Theresesgate, see maps.google.com and plot walking directions between Moltke Moes vei 35 (address of the math department) and either hotel.

Inside Blindern campus

There are several canteens and cafes in the campus. See this page (filter for UiO Blindern) for opening hours, but here are some standard choices:

Currency

Like other Scandinavian countries, Norway has its own currency, Norwegian Krone. However, practically any business accepts credit cards, so usually you do not have to carry large amount of cash. ATMs are called minibanks.
