Invited talk: Hannah Bloomfield

Power systems across the world are decarbonising to try to meet Paris agreement targets. This involves electrifying the heating and transport sectors, and building substantially more renewable energy. As a result, future systems will be substantially more weather-dependent and will experience a number of new resilience challenges. This talk will explore some of these challenges, including renewable energy droughts, compound extreme weather events, and the potential risks to interconnected systems. Results will focus on Europe with some extra examples from India and East Africa.
