September 1:

Welcome meeting Wednesday August 14

The official start of studies for Master's students at the Department of Mathematics is Wednesday August 14, when we hold the mandatory welcome meetings for our programmes. In this meeting, the programme coordinators will talk briefly about the general programme structure, but most importantly you will be assigned a contact person with whom you can discuss which courses to take the first semester. He or she will also help you navigate the field of professors in order to find suitable supervisors later in the semester. Note that the meeting is mandatory, and that you therefore must contact us on studieinfo@math.uio.no no later than the same day if you are unable to attend due to illness or other reasons. In that case, you will be responsible for reading through all information that is sent out or posted online after the meeting. If you are absent without informing us you will lose your place on the programme.

Programme Time Place
9:00 Vilhelm Bjerknes' hus, auditorium 1 (VB1)
9:00 VB2
10:00 VB5
10:00 VB1

Choosing courses for the autumn semester

As we meet for the first time Tuesday August 15, and the deadline for signing up to courses with priority as a programme student is already August 17, it is important that you have a look at recommended courses in advance. Which courses to choose will be addressed in the mandatory welcome meeting, but from experience, it is much easier to make a choice if you have looked at the possibilities beforehand.

How to sign up for courses

You sign up for courses in Studentweb, either by searching for the course you want on the tab "My active courses", or by adding them to your individual study plan during the registration. Note that you may finish the registration without adding any courses, if you wish to sign up for courses after the welcome meeting.

Students with a conditional offer of admission, who fulfill their condition within the given deadline, will be given the correct study right by UiO and can sign up for courses within the deadline.
