Andreas Carlson (Department of Mathematics, UiO):
The title of his talk: "Quiescence induce fluidization and stress amplification in an epithelial layer".
Carlson will show some examples of biological modelling my group has been involved with recently. Most of the talk will focus on describing how quiescence, a rest state of the cell, can play an essential role in active flow of cells in an epithelial layer. By combining experiments and theoretical modelling we demonstrate that quiescence can be an essential component for fluidization and amplification of stress in an epithelial cell layer, which points to new ideas of the role of quiescence in wound healing.
