The prize is shared between prof. Bjørn Jamtveit and prof. Lena M. Tallaksen. The Committee writes the following about Jamtveit:
"Bjørn Jamtveit is very clever educationally, and he manages to explain a challenging subject like metamorphic petrology in an understandable way. This he partly due to his professional skills, as well as his enthusiasm and general charm. He takes his time with the students, finds a level corresponding with the students' level and then elevates the students to the level they should be academicly. He also gave a lot of his time to the students who had questions before the exam and he showed up on the day of the exam to answer questions, despite his large workload.
He is passionate about his subject, which is contagious to everyone who listens. In field work, he is especially good With creating an interest. In this situasions he makes the distance between students and professors even lower, and he mangaged to lower the treshold to ask questions as he related to the students in both a Professional and the personal level. He made a demanding subject both fun and manageable."
The professor was honored, and he was very flattered by the students' words on the diploma. We congratulate him on this well deserved homage!
About the students' "Lecturer of the year"-award
It is a yearly tradition at Department, that The Geosciences Subject Committee presents the "Lecturer of the year"-award. The award is presented to one or more lecturers that teaches at the Department in a subject taught at either the spring or fall break. The award has not been presented every year.
In 2017 the award went to Elisabeth Alve GEO/UoO and Henrik Friis Friis/UoO.
