Rakul Maria Johannesen

Rakul started at Njord in January 2022, and will be with us for three years. Her PhD is funded by the Faroese Geological Survey.

Rakul writes the following about herself:

"I have a master in Geology from the University of Copenhagen. For my thesis I studied the basaltic flows on the Faroe Islands, integrating different types of data like seismic, lithological logs and photogrammetry in a toolbox. This triggered an interest to find applications for, and further develop this tool. As it allows for investigation of the geometry of formations and the behaviour of fluids, the potential for carbon fixation within the Faroese basalt, was an obvious topic.

For my PhD the work will be focusing on onshore mapping of fractures, flow boundaries, understanding the fracture network and estimate the reservoir properties of the Faroe Islands Basaltic Group.

At Njord, I will be joining of the CO2Basalt project as an external PhD, with a link to the Faroese Geological Survey.
