Panel discussion: "Fostering Innovation in Bioinformatics"
The term innovation is increasingly used in bioinformatics when describing both its intentions and outcomes. While familiar, the content of this terms remains vague or even opaque, especially for the more junior members of our community just starting in the field. This panel discussion will aim to shed light on this important notion, clarifying how innovation could inform our way to work and more broadly how it encourages a particular function for bioinformatics research in society. To faithfully cover the scope of a term like innovation, our panel will aim to comprehensively span the life cycle of innovation as understood in the context of bioinformatics. We aim to gather as panelists:
- Health sector professionals with experience in translating basic research to clinical applications
- Academic stakeholders bridging the world of basic research and industry
- Industry leaders with an entrepreneurial perspective
By facilitating a conversation among this diverse and comprehensive set of perspectives we aim to unpack this multi-faceted notion that is innovation and help our members incorporate it in their own work.
