Genome organization & dynamics

There is much more to the genome than the DNA sequence itself – a major outstanding research question is to understand the interplay of various epigenetic modifications of DNA and histones, of chromatin structure and spatial genome organization, and of binding of proteins to DNA.

What is needed is not a single map, but rather an atlas of how these processes unfold across a variety of cell types, disease states and cellular processes. The bioinformatics environment in Oslo are making contributions in several directions - improving the fundamental understanding of how the genome is spatially organized and how transcription factors bind to DNA, developing statistical methodology for analyzing relations between omics data and determining spatial enrichment.
