Understanding of defects and impurities in ZnO; synthesis, doping, and band gap engineering (Understanding ZnO) (completed)

About the project

The overall objective of the present project is to enhance basic understanding of ZnO material properties focusing on experimental studies of defects and impurities in ZnO. There are three major routes/approaches within the project:

  1. fundamental studies of intrinsic defects, defect complexes and impurities in bulk and thin-film ZnO
  2. synthesis and investigation of ZnO/MgZnO multi quantum wells (MQWs)
  3. understanding of physics and technology of ZnO nanowires. Quantum dots are also in the scope of the project by combining MQW and nanowiring technologies. The major resources of the project are allocated for training of two PhD students and 1 postdoc researcher
